What to expect

The Southern Reef islands are a short sail from Gladstone and it is the most easily accessible part of the Great Barrier Reef chain in Australia. It offers a wide range of choices like the Heron Island National Park, the splendid Fitzroy and many atolls. The diversity of the Great Barrier Reef is unmatchable and accessibility to the underwater world is quite easy.

We set sail from Gladstone and across the Tropic of Capricorn before returning to the mainland, Great Keppel Island. Great Keppel Island is a rocky and rugged island that features forested hills, natural bushlands, crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches within its small radius.

Due to the trade winds, this spot has the perfect wind conditions for surfing and kitesurfing, in fact, it is a residence for a couple of established kitesurfing schools!

Getting there: Take the international flight to Brisbane and then you could take a bus, rent a car or take a domestic flight to Gladstone. From Great Keppel, there is a regular ferry back to the mainland.

Please note: The given price of $ 3700 for a trip is per person for a double occupancy cabin. Single travellers who wish to travel will have to book the whole cabin $7400.
