Ambon-Raja Ampat Expedition

Yacht Charter and Boat Rental in Maluku

Adventure Provided by: Brian U. · Boat Owner

What to expect

The trip starts in Ambon Bay, then we make our way towards Nusa Laut where we can see some bigger fish and pelagics. Once we dive under the reefs in front of the village we sail towards the Banda islands. The remoteness of the islands in the wide open Banda Sea and the low levels of population have meant less fishing and therefore a vibrant, natural, and healthy reef system. The result of this are reefs that are bursting with so much life, such as huge sea fans and sponges, some monumental hard corals, and an abundance of fish.

Gunung Api, an active volcano, is most famous for its population of sea snakes which are completely harmless to divers. On the islands, we offer you the opportunity to visit the old historic town of Banda Neira. Here you will find many remnants of the Dutch and English spice trade. The Dutch fort Belgica offers great views of the port and Gunung Api volcano. Pulau Koon lays between the Ceram and the Banda Sea and many fish and corals thrive here. There is also a big chance to see large fish such as manta rays, sharks and even mobulas. This is also the last stop before we enter Raja Ampat.

The first stop in Raja Ampat will be in the Misool area and to see the island's most pristine reefs. Then we sail further toward the centre of Raja Ampat to dive along the islands in the Dampier Strait including a beautiful viewpoint on one of the islands of Fam. The last dives of the trip will be around the island of Kri after which we set sail towards Sorong.

There are a wide variety of dive sites going from walls and slopes with magnificent topography towards muck sites, channels and undiscovered reefs. Usually, we encounter medium currents and surge, but expect the full range from mild to strong current dives.

Please note: This trip can be between 12-16 nights.
