BIGKANU Multihull (Raja Ampat)

The amazing destination of Raja Ampat now has an equally amazing new boat. BIGKANU is an 80 foot sailing multihull, with 9 cabins for 12 guests, priced well below the Raja Ampat fleet, offering an itinerary and capacity to explore and tour the very best parts of Raja Ampat where deep draft boats cannot reach.

Fully crewed and catered, with twin tenders, SUPs and kayak for ship to shore, and with our alloy hull and shallow draft, you can often just step ashore to beaches, jetties from the deck. If not, just paddle off between the mind warping limestone karst islets. We are not a dive boat, instead, we call in dive boat tenders as you need them, keeping our cost lower for those non divers, and besides, the best of Raja Ampat can be seen with a mask and fins alone.

We are solar powered with 4000 watts of panels, to reduce generator noise, and given we are into our music, mood lighting and cuisine, this is how we like it. Each guest has their own private cabin, nicely ventilated behind walls of slide back French louvers, and by day, we can open up to one big party workshop.

This is a stable trimaran, nearly 40ft wide, so we are more stable than a houseboat, and at the same time, with blade hulls and sail boost, we are great way to deal with any bumpy bits. Seasickness…? I do not think so!

Most of Raja Ampat is sheltered, and as the lone liveaboard with a shallow draft, we can cut through the long jungle river that divides the main islands, cruising the Kabui or Misool karst country, weaving in and out of the canyons, towers and back lagoons where no other live-aboard can reach.

You would be mad to try and see Raja Ampat any other way, unless you only want to see it through binoculars. Island lagoons like Wayag and deep inside Misool, we say, are the most spectacular ‘wow’ destinations in Asia, and you will never get to see the inside story unless you can glide harmlessly over the top of those coral gardens. It’s not just below the water that is amazing, the true wow is in the madness of the big limestone melt-down that is this Jurassic landscape, not to mention the incredible jungle biodiversity on display out our every window. It’s up close, where the reef meets rainforest that to want to be, not looking on from 300m offshore.

Bigkanu is not one of those boats nonsensically described as ‘hand crafted by the traditional builder of wherever’, which is a code up for cheap and dangerous third world build, where most of the fleet in Indonesia would never a get a safety permit outside Indonesia. Alloy built, with Aussie and Kiwi teams, under careful scrutiny for safety and comfort, BIGKANU is not a typical Indonesian boat, and whilst it was very expensive to build, it is efficient to run, and can under-price its cheaper competitors will relish. It’s also the most, space-race piece of pirate madness, afloat.

BIGKANU was designed and drawn in the sand of 100 beaches until final plan was fixed, and from the outset, the boat’s home was to be Raja Ampat, where it resides year round, purpose built for this location.

Available to charter at 1190 Euro’s per day for the fully catered boat, or from 135 Euros per day per person, on our regular tours, BIGKANU can be hired through your group’s own private charter, or at industry rates for Travel Companies, or per person as part of our low cost, ‘raja-ampat-boat-trip’ tours.

We are also a favourite of the big Travel companies, with whom we partner, where our partners often add in guides, sail time guarantees, transfers, and a range of special inclusions such as park entrance fees.

We are also well love by the Freedive community, and we have extensibe knowledge of many of the great freedive locations in Raja Ampat, often working with freedive leaders and promoters, to deliver a great trip, providing the boat to leaders at industry rates, to keep costs lower for guests.

Raja Ampat has its own great surf coast, that blends into a chain of islands northwards up the Pacific coast to Halmahera and Morotai, and we are expert in all the semi-secret surf locations along this Pacific Island coast, so if you want a local surf boat charter, we are the local expert.

For groups want to see Triton Bay or Misool, we are within handy reach of these destinations are just love cruising there, so please, think of us when you are wanting to see these, the world’s most breath-taking sights, as we too just love it there.

The reality of Raja Ampat cruising is that it is a gentle, and stunning destination, and you do not need to spend a fortune to see it, if you pick the right boat.

And we are the right boat, for this destination.
