Good to know

  • You must be wondering what lies beneath those crystalline waters...
  • ...snorkel Cuba and explore coral reefs and underwater rock formations!
  • A great addition to your Cuba sailing adventure
Snorkeling in Cuba is simply marvelous. Around the island, you’ll find colorful coral reefs thriving with marine life, including sea turtles, hundreds of species of fishes, reef sharks and even manatees. Sadly, the condition of coral reefs have been declining throughout the Caribbean over the recent period, but Cuba has been unaffected. The reasons for this are limited tourism and coastal development, strict controls on commercial fishing, and the establishment of marine protected areas - as a result, Cuba boasts incredible underwater biodiversity. The best snorkeling in Cuba can be found in Maria la Gorda, a beach on Cuba’s westernmost point, as well as on the surrounding cayos like Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. Another great snorkeling location in Cuba is the Bay of Pigs (Bahia de Cochinos) - however, the best snorkeling site Cuba in terms of marine biodiversity is the Jardines de la Reina, a tiny archipelago south of Cuba’s main island that has been dubbed “Galapagos of the Caribbean”.   Snorkeling is the ideal activity to add to your Cuba cruise, a great alternative to diving, and for the whole family!
