Good to know

  • Surf the amazing waves of Thailand
  • Relax on stunning beaches
  • Enjoy the best sunsets of your life after a day riding the waves

Surfing in Thailand may not be the first thing that comes to mind when examining surfing destinations - after all, whenever looking at pictures of Thai beaches, there’s hardly ever a wave in sight, right?
This may be true when talking about the Gulf of Thailand, where waves are flat most of the year - perfect for snorkeling or swimming, not so much for surf lovers. Having said that, the Gulf also offers a couple of decent surfing locations - the easiest to reach from Bangkok is definitely Rayong, with a fairly exposed beach that offers good breaks.
Thailand’s best surfing is definitely around the Andaman Sea, and the best conditions can be had in September and October, which is also when most tourists have left. Phuket offers two of the best surfing beaches in Thailand, Kalim and Karon Beach. Alternatively, you can move south from Phuket to the island of Koh Kradan, also offering some good swells. However, if you’re a serious surfer, your best bet in the region would be Indonesia or the Philippines.
